It was just 5 years ago that my life changed forever on September 24, 2014. I started this site to help spread awareness of concussions, safe cycling, and people and treatments that have helped me along the way. I took a break in November 2015 to focus on my personal life and mental health, but so much has happened since then. Seems like a good time to start writing again.
Life has changed in the past 5 years,
- I have 2 kids now
- I went back to work full time. Then part time. Then full time. Now again, part time.
- I'm still seeing Dr. Joseph Lawrence on a regular basis.
- Insurance has helped cover the cost of most of my treatments.
- I'm still improving with every passing month, although setbacks still get me good
- Yes, I have been back on my bike! This summer I tried to ride once every week to work and back. There were initial setbacks, but after adhering to some restrictions, it was a success!
- It hasn't been all roses though. There have been many ups and downs, mentally, physically, emotionally. I've still got a terrible memory, concentration and focus can be a challenge, loud rooms are overwhelming, busy rooms are overwhelming, I still lose my temper more often than I'd like. I still get headaches. I still have light sensitivity under certain conditions. I am tired quite often. I can start to have a wonderful discussion, only to lose it all completely 20 minutes later and lose all the details. My ability to multitask has improved, but don't expect me to sort a pile of papers quickly! At some weak moments, I will eat. And eat. And eat.
These might even turn into posts later on! If so, I will link the posts from here. I'm not going to make any promises on the frequency of my writing, but if you prefer I have a RSS feed now so that the updates can come to you!
Today is Rowan's Law Day, commemorated on the last Wednesday of September. Let's celebrate and continue to promote concussion safety as well as spread awareness on the effects of traumatic brain injuries.
